This is where you will be posting your weekly blog for this
course. Each week will have a topic associated with it. You will be expected to
create a blog on the subject for the week. What you have to doo each week will
vary depending on what we are studying that week. You may be required to give
your opinion on a given topic, you may be asked to do some research on
something and tell what you learned. Please make sure that you read the
instructions for each week’s blog thoroughly before you begin typing.
The blog will be graded as follows:
400-500 words ==> 50 points
300-400 words ==> 40 points
200-300 words ==> 30 points
Less than 200 words ==> 20 points
More than 2 typos ==> -2 points per typo
Missing required element (source, link, or image for
example) ==>
-5 points
(Just to give you an idea of length, this blog post is about 590
words long)
The first requirement is to go to the website,
www.blogger.com , and create your own personal blog and introduce yourself (use CSC175 and your last name as part of the
URL when you create the blog). Blogger is affiliated with Google, so you will
be able to set up an account based on your LR email address. There are easy to
follow instructions. Be sure to save your userid and password somewhere. If you
forget it, you will need to create a new blog. Once you have a blog address
(make sure that you have completed the entire set up process), copy the URL and
send it to me in the message system in the class -- DO NOT SEND IT TO ME IN
EMAIL). I will add your blog address to this site. If I do not have access to
your blog, I cannot grade it!
What to include in the first blog:
I basically just want to get to know you a little better. I
will leave the exact contents of this post up to you, but I would like to know
your year and major, a little about your computer experience and your
comfort level with the applications that we will be using (be honest when you
are discussing this – if you took a class on Excel your sophomore year of high
school and haven’t used it since, you probably aren’t proficient), a
description of the last computer class that you took, when you took it, and
what it covered. If you play sports or have a job that impacts your schedule,
let me know about that here. Any other interests, hobbies or pertinent
information can also be included. I would like to hear your goals for this
course – why you are taking it and what you hope to get out of it. (it is ok to
say that you are taking it because it is required) Add a picture to your blog so
that I can put a face to your name.
